Welcome
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to Newcastle for the 52nd Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Research, October 14-17, 2011.
In keeping with the continuing success of our previous Annual Meetings, ESPR 2011 aims to advance paediatric research in Europe and promote the flow of exchange of information and ideas around paediatric research.
This Annual Meeting will present a mixture of opportunities for research interaction, training and continuing professional development to ensure there is something of professional relevance for all.
Rome has played a previous role in developing EANS, as the venue of the 2nd European Congress in 1963. This historical precedent will spur us to work extremely hard to make this Congress an unforgettable event and the most comprehensive and intensive scientific experience that we have ever held at a European level.
State of the art plenary lectures along with specialty tracks featuring international experts, combined with free oral presentations and poster presentations will be included in the scientific program. Featured subjects will include relevant topics in the areas of general paediatrics, neonatology, haematology, pulmonology, ethics, malformations, pharmacology, brain and development, gastroenterology and nutrition, circulation and epidemiology, among others. This year we are honoured to be hosting the prestigious Arrigo Recordati International Prize for Scientific Research and Lecture by an international star in the field of Paediatric Cardiology.
We will run a series of pre-congress courses, both for neonatal trainees (Circulation and Infection) and for established clinician scientists on pharmacology and oxygen transport. This year we also include a short track for neonatal continuing professional development, covering infection, acid-base balance, neurology and nutrition, delivered by world class speakers on Sunday, October 16th, and Monday, October 17th, in partnership with the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS).
We are committed to providing an opportunity for participants to interact and to discuss current and future issues related to paediatrics in a friendly and conducive atmosphere. We are continuing to introduce new developments, such as the late breaker abstract session, Electronic Poster presentations and SMS use for questions and answers.
We hope you will remember this year’s Annual Meeting for both its scientific contributions and for an enjoyable and memorable experience in the dynamic city of Newcastle, with its endless historical and cultural attractions, and look forward to your active involvement in this and all future meetings.
Best wishes,
Prof. Neil Marlow President, ESPR
